Actinic v9 Setup on Fasthosts

A lot of people have problems setting up Actinic v9 on Fasthosts Windows Servers. This HowTo aims to try and take some of the pain out of it. In all of the items below replace the mydomain.co.uk with the domain you are trying to use (e.g. frozenskys.com)

The first thing to note is that you need scripting turned on from your fasthosts control panel, the second thing is that I have only tried this on the developer package so if you are using other packages from fasthosts YMMV (Your milage might vary) :-)

The Actinic network settings wizard won't work on the windows servers as it can't change the file and folder security correctly so we will have to use the Advanced Network Settings

1: Common Settings

The first thing to change is the path to perl which on windows hosting is 'c:\perl\bin' this is in the Common settings at the bottom of the screen.

Whilst you are here you can also set the web site URL which should be of the form 'http:\\www.yourdomainname.com\

You can also change the store folder here or leave it at the default of acatalog

2: FTP Settings

Next we will set the path to CGI-BIN which is '/yourdomainname/htdocs/cgi-bin/'

You need to enter your usual fasthosts FTP login details whilst we are here. I also recommend using passive FTP Transfers

Check that the Path from CGI-BIN to online store folder as viewed by the FTP Server starts with ../ (There are two dots here)

3: Server Settings

Set the server settings as in the image below replacing mydomain.co.uk with your domain name and acatalog with the store folder name you chose in step 1

Check that the Path from CGI-BIN to online store folder starts with ./ (Note there is only one . here)

Check that the sections circled in red below all read the same, and then you should be ready to go!
